Explore flat roof systems

Start with the roof requirements

Start with shape, size, openings, substrate and intended use. A roof with several junctions raises different detailing questions from a simple uninterrupted area. Existing condition matters too when a new system is being considered as part of renewal.

Compare the three system routes

Felt uses a specified arrangement of sheets and laps. EPDM uses a rubber membrane with compatible fixing and junction details. GRP forms a reinforced resin covering over a suitable deck. Each requires a complete, compatible system rather than a material name alone.

Compare complete specifications

Compare the treatment of the deck, insulation, outlets, edges and wall connections. Ask what preparation is included and which assumptions concern concealed conditions. A difference in price may reflect a difference in scope rather than only the covering selected.

Prepare a system-selection enquiry

Explain your project priorities and provide roof information or drawings. Use the system pages to explore specific questions. Before agreeing work, ask for the proposed system and associated details to be identified clearly in the quotation.

A FEW USEFUL ANSWERS

Your questions, answered.

Is one flat roof covering suitable for every roof?+

No. Suitability depends on the roof and the requirements of the selected system.

Should quotations include the deck and insulation?+

They should make clear what is included, retained or excluded, and how concealed defects would be handled.

What should I compare beyond the covering material?+

Compare substrate preparation, insulation, drainage, junctions, access, exclusions and the complete installation specification.
